Morgan Boyle Park
The Morgan Boyle park combines beauty, nature, and functional design down to the last minute detail. To celebrate Canada’s Sesquicentennial anniversary, this park redevelopment brings an outdoor space to Richmond Hill that is lively, peaceful, and appealing, but also provides a communal space for mutual enjoyment.
Flowing lines draw the eye around the park from the rows of young trees to the gentle curve of the parking lot for an added sense of thoughtfulness in even the most mechanical design elements. A new wave structure features 13 capping waves representing the 13 provinces of Canada. The colour scheme of the park is punctuated with red detailing, such as the classic Muskoka chairs and red playground equipment, tying back in to Canada’s national colours so the park is not only a space to unwind and enjoy, but a beautiful, breathing piece of art.
Purpose

Slender Features
- 1:35 thickness to span ratio for shade canopy truss over
- 1:400 thickness to span ratio for shade canopy thin gauge sheet due to wave form
Novel Features
- Mirror polished stainless steel
- Shrinkage compensating concrete used for jointless concrete
- Unusual structural form
Notable Value
- Explored unconventional design practices and standards to maximize slenderness (including Eurocode for wind loads on unusual shapes)
